WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR VISITING

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

This BLOG has been set up to record and thus honour the achievements and sacrifice of the men and women who served as members of units under the command of the 1st British Army during operations in Tunisia from November 1942 -May 1943.

These operations (combined with those of the 8th Army) led to the defeat of the Afrika Korps and the surrender of some 250,000 German and Italian soldiers.

It is intended to ensure that although we should quite rightly celebrate the great achievements of the 8th Army as we approach the 70th anniversary of EL ALAMEIN that we do not overlook and neglect the operations of the First Army . The severity of that fighting and the achievements of the units can be understood better by noting that a total of 4 Victoria Crosses were awarded to men serving in the First Army for actions over a period of only 2 weeks.
